Classic Sopranos Baked Ziti Recipe

Straight from The Sopranos Family Cookbook, here’s the authentic recipe for Carmela’s Ziti al Forno, complete with meatballs for extra indulgence.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 3 cups tomato sauce Sunday Gravy recommended
  • ½ cup grated Romano or Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 8 ounces mozzarella diced
  • Meatballs optional but encouraged!

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Sauce and Meatballs in Advance: To get the authentic Sopranos flavor, make the tomato sauce (Sunday Gravy) a day ahead. Prepare small meatballs to stir into the dish.
  • Cook the Pasta: Boil the ziti in salted water until al dente. Drain and toss with 3 cups of sauce and ½ cup of grated cheese. Stir in meatballs.
  • Layer the Dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spread half the ziti in a baking dish, top with ricotta, mozzarella, and another layer of grated cheese. Add another layer of ziti and finish with sauce and cheese.
  • Bake and Serve: Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–30 minutes until bubbly. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
