How to Make Poulet Frites at Home
Recreating the authentic flavors of poulet frites is easier than you might think. Here’s a recipe to bring this French favorite to your table:
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken (about 3 lbs), free-range and hormone-free
- 3 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp fresh marjoram, thyme, and minced garlic
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 lb potatoes, cut into fries
- Cooking oil for frying
For the Gravy
- 2 cups chicken stock
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp butter
Marinate the Chicken: Coat the chicken with butter, marjoram, thyme, garlic, and lemon juice. Let it marinate for 30 minutes.
Roast the Chicken: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roast the chicken for 50–60 minutes until the skin is golden and crispy.
Fry the Potatoes: Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the potatoes until golden and crispy. Drain on a paper towel.
Make the Gravy: Melt butter in a saucepan, stir in flour, and cook until golden. Gradually add chicken stock and red wine, whisking until smooth and thickened.
