Popular Throwed Rolls Recipes

Several clone recipes attempt to recreate Lambert’s rolls. Below is one of the most reliable versions:

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 package dry active yeast
  • 1/4 cup tepid water 105-110°F
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 beaten egg room temperature
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • Activate Yeast: Combine sugar and yeast in tepid water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix warm milk, melted butter, sugar, beaten egg, and salt.
  • Combine Ingredients: Stir the yeast mixture into the wet ingredients. Gradually add 3 1/2 cups of flour to form a soft dough.
  • Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 4-5 minutes until smooth. Add more flour if necessary.
  • First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  • Shape Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into two small balls and place them in greased muffin tins.
  • Second Rise: Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 45 minutes.
  • Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Serve: Brush the warm rolls with melted butter and serve immediately.
