Recipe: French Mac and Cheese

This recipe is inspired by classic French cooking principles, including the use of crème fraîche, Gruyère, and Cantal cheese.

Ingredients
  

  • 16 ounces small macaroni
  • 1 clove garlic halved lengthwise
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 ¼ cups crème fraîche
  • 2 cups grated Gruyère cheese divided
  • 2 cups grated Cantal cheese divided
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • cup dry breadcrumbs

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare pasta: Cook macaroni according to package instructions and drain.
  • Prepare the baking dish: Rub the cut garlic over the surface of a 3-quart baking dish, then brush with melted butter.
  • Combine ingredients: In the dish, mix cooked macaroni with crème fraîche, 1 ½ cups of each cheese, salt, and pepper.
  • Add toppings: Sprinkle breadcrumbs and remaining cheeses on top.
  • Bake: Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  • Serve immediately: Enjoy with a side salad for a complete meal.
